Practice
In my one-to-one lessons I work with people over a wide range of ages, disabilities, sporting activities and those who wish simply to improve in their daily functioning. Clients include musicians, those suffering injuries such as sports people with shoulder, knee and hip issues, and sufferers of chronic Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS).
For group lessons I have three private classes and am one of the teachers of the Awareness Through Movement class for first year performance students in the New Zealand School of Music’s B.Mus degree programme.
Biography
I came to the Feldenkrais® Method in 1999 after a long search for therapies to address my OOS-related chronic migraine headaches that were increasing in frequency and severity in my academic work environment.
Attendance at my first Awareness Through Movement® class brought immediate relief and the Method also made immediate sense as a highly effective form of self-improvement. Not only have my headaches reduced significantly, but other symptoms associated with the headaches and OOS dwindled and then disappeared altogether over time.
Retirement after 33 years from a full time university lecturing position has allowed me to establish my Feldenkrais practice while I still continue my scholarly, sporting, musical and other pursuits with greater vigour and enjoyment. In my maturer years, the very small number of injuries I have suffered in recreational and other activities, and speed of recovery from them, are a testament to the efficacy of the Method.
